My my My my
Dear SHM Family,
We hope you are all continuing to do well under these difficult circumstances.  Our program has been in a holding pattern for the better part of three months as we watched the signals seesaw back and forth, both nationally and in our local league.  We had hoped to have something of a full tackle season this year, but the SHM Board has determined that the risks that come from full tackle are too difficult to mitigate, and many other leagues and towns are closing or modifying their programs.
So we have decided to convert our football program to FLAG FOOTBALL THIS YEAR FOR EVERY GRADE (K-8).  It is intended to be a less heavy commitment than in prior years -- a few practices a week, and small-team games on Sundays.  Each team will have coaches and some structure, but with an emphasis on fun backyard-style game play.  Participants in our cheer program are also invited to join the Spirit Squad!  The key details are below:
-- Open to boys and girls of every grade K-8
-- Practices -- 1-2 per week, tentatively planned for Tuesdays (skills practice) and Thursdays (team specific practice)
-- Games -- Sunday mornings between 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
-- Start/End Dates -- we plan on starting first practices/orientation on Sept 15, with first game day Sept 20; end date would be in November, with possible optional games on Thanksgiving morning
-- All Local -- we plan to play at the Bedwell turf and grass fields for all games, and we plan for the program to just play our own teams in town (no travel)
-- Teams -- players will be assigned each week to make teams balanced and competitive; players will get the chance to play with many different players and coaches throughout the season; small teams, lots of playing time
-- Return to Play Protocol -- we will have an RTP with guidelines similar to those used by baseball and lacrosse this past summer
-- Cost -- $125, includes reversible SHM playing T-shirt.
-- Cheer -- we will also have a scaled-back cheer program called our "Spirit Squad" to help get the crowd going on game days (no cost to join)
-- Donations Welcome -- as we continue to rebuild our program for the future, we ask that you consider making a donation to SHM, in dollars, time, ideas, and energy
We are very excited to get back out onto the fields this fall, and we hope you will all join us.  Please register today and spread the word that football is back in town.
